About 1,000 ancient artifacts found in the country home of a wealthy engineer outside Rome have been traced by archaeologists to one of Emperor Trajan’s first-century villas, CBC News reported. The archaeologists said the pieces, used as decorations in the engineer’s weekend residence, came from the walls of what is believed to have been Trajan’s hunting retreat in Arcinazzo Romano. The suspect in the case has not been identified because the matter remains under investigation, and he is not in police custody. The police did not provide a date for their raid on the home but indicated that it took place more than a year ago.
